So incredibly stoked for the release of this album. The two singles they’ve come out with so far (“Feel Again” and “If I Lose Myself”) are hints of the brilliant and unique sound this album will be soaked in. Even though each song is only available to my ears for a few seconds, each of those seconds is bliss.

Angels and Airwaves. Pop-punk and perfect. And for me, this band is one of those bands that reminds me of specific moments and people in my life, so when I hear that distinct voice of Tom Delonge, I immediately smile due to the memories and the awesome feel good music. I’m slightly cringing as I post this, simply because it’s the Biebs. But, i have to admit this acoustic version is pretty awesome. I’ve heard a handful of great covers of it as well, which proves it’s song quality. And Justin Bieber is genuinely talented and I think the release of an acoustic album proves he cares about the music and not just the radio/popular appeal-although because it’s Biebs, multiple acoustic versions of songs will begin to pop up on KISSFM.

This song is a classic from my middle school days. At least to me it’s a classic. I remember the music video playing on TRL and VH1 Top 20 Countdown. That nostalgia mixes in with the steady drumroll which morphs into a beautiful guitar intro creating an epic beginning of the classic rock song. My Chemical Romance should do another album. Yah? Beta Radio is one of those bands that cause me to become insanely thankful for Spotify Radio because without it I would have never found it. Beta Radio has a multitude of types of songs, but all keep that same smoothness no matter the tempo. I love how this song in particular connects with Darden Road, a song earlier on in the album.

NEW ALBUM ALERT! Ellie Goulding managed to blow my mind yet again with Halcyon, both this song and the album in its entirety. First of all, her voice—how??? And then to add the amazing electronic beats and sounds while maintaing an almost reverie-like tone to her music, she lifts herself into the musical genius category. When my friend Elle and I looked up what “halcyon” actually meant (denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful), we immediately had to re-listen to this song because it took on an entirely deeper meaning knowing that. Also knowing the definition, I felt myself not needing to label it with an adjective to describe it, because it’s title does exactly that. But because the word “halcyon” isn’t quite the most popular word ever, the meaning is subtle which adds to her brilliance. I can’t stop listening to this album! So good!

Another amazing new album—Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Just a little shout out, USC Concerts committee got them to play at our school last year! woot woot! We rock. Okay back to the music: almost every song on her is some sort of collaboration, which makes listening so exciting because you dont’ really know what to expect with every song. And you get to know other artists, through the spice they add to each song, and because you then research them if you dig them listening to a song.

Now this song specifically just makes me smile because it’s so—cool! I don’t know how else to describe it, I just wanna smile and bob my head along and pretend like I could whip out some awesome quirky hip hop moves to it. But really, every song on this album is so good and I always get so excited for new albums because that means new and (if it’s an artist you really like) more amazing music!!

John Legend makes this song. Not to say Lupe Fiasco doesn’t play a huge part in making it beautiful, it’s just John Legend’s smooth voice is so perfect for the tone of this song. Lupe’s entire LASERS album is great and the closing song (this one folks) really leaves a lasting impression. I always get teary eyed when I listen to this song. Okay, maybe not EVERY time, especially if I’m in my class waiting for the professor to start lecturing, but still, it has an effect worth mentioning.

It is a glorious thing when an artists with such a unique sound and such an amazing (although verging on overplayed) first album delivers a sophomore album that not only delivers just as quality songs, but carries through that same unique sound! Mumford & Sons may not have necessarily released a ground-breaking and music-renewing album, but the songs are just as good, if not better. Yet, they don’t fall prey to the common mistake of putting out a repeat album. The sound is the same, but the songs are different. The last three tracks also sway a bit from the banjo, thigh-slapping sound, but hold true to Mumford’s unbeatable tone. Other songs from this album I’m in love with include Lover of the Light, Holland Road, Whispers That We Knew, and I Will Wait ( a song about patience, at least from my understanding, which is such a resonating theme in my life right now).

Spotify has a way of surprising me with goodies on the main recommendation page. It probably has something to do with an algorithm containing info about my past starred songs or my previous artists listened to—but anyway it is great. This song is awesome to listen to with headphones because certain echoes and instruments are played in an alternating fashion through each ear bud and it creates this ambiance of pure musical bliss, especially in the last minute and a half of the song. Blind Pilot, and 3 Round and a Sound in particular, reminds me a bit of Jack Johnson, but instead of a kick off your shoes/go surfing/drink iced tea vibe while watching the sunset vibe-this song echoes more of a rain or shine type of mood. I could listen to it while doing homework, reading, sitting in my room, walking around campus, or anything mellow. But it’s not too mellow and has enough variation to differentiate itself. I’ve listened to Blind Pilot before and would consider myself an appreciative fan. I’m not too familiar with their newer stuff but their old album from 2009 (of which this song makes its appearance on) is a beautiful sort of sound.

I love Regina Spektor and have gone on about why she is so amazing in previous blog posts but I have never listened to her most recent album. Thankfully, Spotify radio always surprises me and helped me stumble on the realization she had a new album out this year! So, naturally I’m listening to the entire thing and when this song popped up I just couldn’t not post it. The lyrics are so spot on to how I feel about a certain aspect of my life right now, and when an artist’s words can match your exact thoughts about a situation, and then go above and beyond and provide music that matches the feelings that go with those is genius! So here’s to Regina Spektor: her exquisite voice, unique melodies, unmatched tone, and cleverly crafted lyrics .
