My best friend recently introduced me to The Oh Hellos’ and I’m obsessed with their sound! I love finding another folksky/indie rock band and listening to their album on repeat becoming more and more familiar with the contours of their specifically awesome sound.

I’ve been MIA for a few months now, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been listening to awesome music! I have so I’m going to post a handful of songs/artists I’ve taken a fancy to recently. And I’ll try to post more often I promise!

Maroon 5 ft. One Republic - It’s Too Late (to be loved) rmx

Two of my favorite artists combined! Came across this as I was looking for a Maroon 5 video, and fell in love! The video itself isn’t really that cool, but the mix is sweet! Just had to pass it along.

I heard this song on the radio this morning, and although I can’t really qualify why I love Flo Rida so much, I can’t get this song out of my head! His songs have great beats and I always find myself never switching the “Top 40” stations play any of his songs. The lyrics aren’t deep or ridden with emotion, but he manages to make songs that catch, and for that I’ll give him credit. Wild Ones is also one of my “guilty pleasures.” I try to stay away from Top 40 tracks, but there are a few that will catch my eye…or ear I should say…and this is one of them. It makes me smile, except when I try to whistle along-I can’t whistle to save my life.

Poison & Wine by The Civil Wars

I absolutely LOVE this duo, and every single song of theirs has such a unique and beautiful melody. This song is one of my favorites because of the piano, the alternating vocals, and especially, the lyrics. The first time I heard this song I connected with the lyrics immediately. The fact that a complete stranger can sing words, feelings and thoughts and can reach your heart and mind shows how powerful music can be.

I just posted a song by The Head and the Heart but…. I just found out I get to see them LIVE and for FREE on Tuesday so I got stoked and decided to listen to their album for the hundredth time and came across this song, track number 2. I looked up the lyrics and I never realized how relatable and creatively written they were. It was already one of my favorite songs by the band, but looking up the lyrics made me love it that much more. And now, because I understand what the song means—although the title, whether it is supposed to be the city in Idaho or the French translation for “heart of awl” (neither of which makes much sense)—I love listening to it that much more.

Welcome Home, Son by Radical Face

Windows rolled down, wind blowing through my face, sun streaming down through the moon roof, and this song pumping vibrantly through the speakers of my car brings about a feeling I live for. The sounds of the road mix with the clicking and strumming of the instruments as I hum along in the chorus. I find myself drifting into a reverie of awareness, yet stillness. I feel content as I listen to this song, in my car, isolated from the chaos of the world, left to the road, the sun, the rhythm and myself. Simply beautiful.

Featured on Scrubs, The OC, and One Tree Hill, this song has a pretty good TV, feel-good vibe. Fountains of Wayne, best known for their famous “Stacy’s Mom” song, has a really good sound, and while the lead singer’s voice isn’t beyond amazing or breathtaking, his tone attracts the listener and draws you in. The simplistic, yet interesting melodies carry the songs of this powerful pop band that has made a number of great records. I also really enjoy all of the album artwork, its different, unique and artsy to say the least.

This is one of the other songs that made me stoked on finding Butterfly Boucher. Her voice is so cool, strong, and intriguing. It lures you in, and I feel like the Sirens from Greek mythology would have had a singer in the group with this girl’s type of voice.

I don’t get the sheep, but album artwork isn’t quite exactly the point of this blog. So with that—>

The tone of this guy’s voice is so unique. A few of his songs have been featured on a handful of TV shows, including One Tree Hill, Alias, Beautiful People, so not quite recent, but still nonetheless featured! His music has that twang and flexibility of a folky sound, yet the songs themselves don’t quite cross into that genre completely. The sounds of the guitar and harmonica heard throughout this album seduce the listener and beg to linger for a second or two longer than the sounds are supposed to resonate.  The beat of the guitar strums make my foot tap along; and with his rhythmic voice singing just offbeat enough, he creates music with enough emotion and honesty that match the lyrics of this song come together to create an eerily blissful song about losing love.
